The Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington will present a free educational presentation for childcare providers, parents/guardians and community members on Thursday, April 26th called “Developing Fine Motor Skills for Kindergarten.”

The speaker will be Sue Spatafore, an Occupational Therapist for the Southington Public Schools.

Attendees will learn:

  • What fine motor skills are and how they develop in young children
  • Why there has been a decline in manual dexterity in preschool students over the last decade
  • Techniques and fun activities that can be done to support fine motor skill development in home and in the classroom

Fine motor skills are required to accomplish a variety of activities in kindergarten including writing, artwork and cutting with scissors. Free childcare is available from the Southington YMCA if requested during registration.

Doors open at 6:00, the presentation starts at 6:30 pm.

Note the YMCA Learning Center is located across the street from the main YMCA campus.

This workshop is part of the ECCS's "Kindergarten Readiness for Southington's Young Children" initiative funded by the Bristol Brass General Grant Fund and the Fuller & Myrtle Barnes Fund for Education at the Main Street Community Foundation.
